Agricultural Water Quality
Woodchip Bioreactors.
Improving Water Quality.
ONE FIELD AT A TIME.
A woodchip bioreactor is an edge-of-field conservation practice where drainage water flows through a trench filled with woodchips. The woodchips provide a carbon source that allows naturally occurring microbes to convert nitrates into harmless nitrogen gas, reducing nutrient loading into Iowa waterways.
